Obituary for Dorothy L. Melvin

Dorothy L. Melvin (nee Kehoe), of Roslyn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Sunrise Assisted Living, where she resided for the past 18 months. Born February 28, 1928 she was the daughter of Charles and Sarah Kehoe and grew up in Jenkintown, PA., the fourth and last surviving of six children. She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School for Girls in Wyncote. She married William Melvin in May 1953, sharing a strong union for almost 40 years until Williams passing in 1991. She worked for over 60 years at Williamson's three locations including Jenkintown, City Line in Philadelphia, and Horsham, PA. She worked in many capacities at the restaurant and work with three generations of the Williamson family. She loved her work and the people she worked with. Her customers were like family to her. She was also an avid sports fan, cheering for her Phillies throughout the season. She loved going to the shore and walking on the beach. Dorothy may best be remembered for her wit and spunky personality. She is also remembered for her strength in meeting her many challenges in life including the care of her husband while maintaining humor and cheer. Dorothy is survived by her three children: Patricia of Sonoma, CA., William Joseph (Helen) of Glenside, and Robert Frank of Philadelphia. Dorothy was a devoted mother, attending all baseball, soccer and field hockey games as well as annual ballet and music recitals. She spent many nights editing and typing term papers. She taught all of her children how to throw and bat a baseball, lay tile, and paint a room as well as how to drive. In addition to her children, she is survived by three nieces: Barbara Perry, Dorothy Mara, and Paula Melvin Perrin; four grandchildren: William Charles Melvin (Claire), Laura Masterson Whalen (Andrew), Patrick Robert Melvin (Kathryn) and Alexandra Masterson; and three great grandchildren: Lucy Whalen, Charles Patrick Melvin and Henry Kehoe Whalen.
